Telephone fraud

If anyone calls you and claims to be a bank employee, lawyer, police officer or prosecutor, saying that they are going to perform transactions, such as refunds of card fees, debt collection fees or account maintenance fee, and then asks you to share the passcodes sent by Akbank, do not, under any circumstances, share this information.

Clues
  • When our bank calls you, we will never ask for your internet banking password or the one-time passcodes sent via SMS to your mobile phone.
  • You can log in to Akbank Mobile and turn on the Allow Notifications options from the Profile, Settings, Notification Settings menu to determine whether or not the caller is a bank employee.
  • * If information is requested by numbers you do not recognize, do not give them your information and do not hesitate to terminate the call.

Social media scams

If people contact you via social networks such as Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter) or WhatsApp and pretend to be your friend, do not, under any circumstances, give them your personal or financial information (customer number, card number, password, mobile passcode, etc.) and do not perform any banking transactions with their guidance.

Clues

Our advertisements and campaigns on social media are only posted on our bank’s official corporate social media accounts.

  • To be sure that the campaign you see on social media actually belongs to our bank or to our brands, you should look for the blue or yellow checkmark that should be beside our brands.
  • It is extremely difficult to be sure that a person in a social media environment is who they say they are, so do not, under any circumstances, share personal or financial information with these individuals.
  • We recommend that if people act like your friends or acquaintances, you speak with them on the telephone.

Malware

Malware and viruses can be uploaded to your smartphone, tablet or personal computers in the following ways:

  • Fake e-mail links
  • Fake links to pages listed on search engines
  • Advertising or sponsor links on social media or websites
  • Links in SMS messages that look like they were sent by the bank
  • Fake banking applications downloaded from app stores
  • Apps for watching games downloaded from app stores
Clues
  • Never download apps to your phone if you don’t know the source.
  • Always use safe sources, such as Google Play, Apple Store and Huawei App Gallery, to download apps.
  • We recommend that you always research every app before you download it, especially if it is not well known.
  • Do not open e-mails or their attachments if it is from people you do not know.
  • Do not click on links in fake social media advertisements, SMS and e-mail messages that aim to upload apps promising rewards, gift drawings or money.
  • Do not download remote access apps to your device under the guidance of anyone who calls you.
  • Make sure you use licensed operating systems, software and antivirus programs and keep them up to date.

Phishing

If a person clicks on a link that is shared via e-mail, SMS or social media using data that has been captured or copied from trustworthy organizations or individuals, they can be directed to a fake website and information that is critical for security can be captured.

Clues
  • Be careful about e-mails or SMS messages that might contain data that has been captured or copied from trustworthy organizations and individuals.
  • Do not, under any circumstances, open these types of suspicious links from sources you do not recognize.
  • Government agencies and financial institutions will never request your financial or personal data via e-mail or SMS.
  • In order to determine whether the websites you are directed to actually belong to Akbank, you can check the Security Certificate visible in the address bar.
  • If you are suspicious, do not enter any information and call our Customer Contact Center at 444 25 25 to report the incident.

Fraud related to Hajj/Umrah and Automobile Gifts/Drawings

Scammers place fake advertisements on frequently-used social media platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook, and they call or message you with promises of winning a trip to the Hajj/Umrah or a gift/drawing for an automobile, etc. They may send you suspicious links and ask that you share your personal password information or send them money.

In situations like these, do not, under any circumstances, open the links sent to you, share information with them or transfer any money.

Product or service purchase scams

It is important for you to understand that advertisements for cheap hotels, bungalows or car rentals on social media with fake images are very likely a scam.

Clues
  • Before making any payment, confirm that the advertisement is real.
  • Always use trustworthy e-commerce websites for shopping.
  • Be wary of people who contact you with investment schemes. We recommend that you handle your investments with reliable sources.
  • It is a good idea to conduct business such as hotel reservations or vehicle rentals with well-known corporate websites or agencies in person.
