Akbank was found deserving of the “Award of Excellence”, an award given out every year, anticipated by the entire banking community around the world and considered to be one of the most respected awards of the banking sector by Euromoney, one of the leading finance magazines in the world.

In its announcement concerning the award, Euromoney stated that apart from Akbank’s strong capital adequacy ratio, well-diversified deposit base and branch network, the Bank’s below the sector NPL ratio, full provisions set for these loans and their successful management were effective in earning Akbank “Turkey’s Best Bank” award.

The American Turkish Council (ATC) and the Turkish American Business Council (TAIK) presented Akbank with the “Commercial Leadership Award.” In the annual conference organized in Washington D.C. Executive Board Member Mr. Hayri Çulhacı accepted the award on behalf of Akbank from the Chairman of ATC, Mr. Brent Scowcroft.

In the announcement made by ATC and TAIK, Akbank was awarded on the basis of the following criteria:

• With more than 870 branches,15,000 employees and its customer-focused banking services, Akbank is Turkey’s most valuable, stable and innovative bank
• The Akbank – Citigroup cooperation is an excellent example of a partnership established by an American and a Turkish company to create value
• Viewing its social responsibility activities as an undeniable part of its operations and making important contributions to improving social life through its investments in the arts and education

In its survey of the CEE and CIS regions best banks and financial institutions industry awards, EMEA Finance Magazine, one of the leading finance magazines of Europe, the Middle East and Africa named Akbank as “Turkey’s Best Bank”. Thanks to its strong capital and profitability, flexibility and consumer loans portfolio, Akbank was found deserving of this prestigious award.

EMEA Finance criteria for choosing the winners included: market share, profitability, important transactions and strategy. As a result of the evaluations, the banks which outperformed their rivals and were market leaders as well as top performers in both their own countries and regions received the award.

In an exclusive survey, Global Finance Magazine has named the “Best Emerging Market Banks in Central and Eastern Europe”. Akbank was selected as the Best Bank in Turkey for the fifth time in a row. According to the New York based Global Finance magazine’s survey the banks were evaluated under different criteria such as growth in assets, profitability, strategic relationships, customer service, competitive pricing and innovative products.

Global Finance selected Akbank as the Best Bank in Turkey for 2009 due to its successful performance on the basis of the above mentioned criteria.

In its surveys of the Best Emerging Market Banks in Central and Eastern Europe, Global Finance Magazine has named Akbank as the Best Bank in Turkey in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

In 2009 Global Finance Magazine has also selected Akbank as Turkey’s “Best Trade Finance Provider” and “Best Foreign Exchange Bank”.
